Seattle Center Century 21 Master Plan // Seattle, WA
Richard Hartlage contributed to the spatial master plan for the five acres immediately surrounding the Space Needle on the Seattle Center campus. The master plan integrates the urban forest of the South Top, a park-like place that encourages respite. Richard proposed a signature water feature to reference the former historic water feature at the base of the Space Needle that was built as part of the 1962 World's Fair. Additionally, Richard prepared a comprehensive vegetation management plan for the fifty-acre Seattle Center campus. The plan includes an inventory of existing trees and species, a strategic tree replacement plan for aging and dying trees, designed guidelines for all new projects to be built on the campus, a carefully selected tree species list, and a long-term maintenance strategy.
