Richard Hartlage served as Director/Curator of the Elisabeth C. Miller Botanical Garden for eight years. He instituted a Master Plan for the five acre property, wrote all the governing documents, collection policies, and started Great Plant Picks. Richard curated one the most important are plant collections in the Puget Sound region, as the garden includes the largest collections of Hepaticas in North America. Under his direction, the garden added significant garden features such as a nursery, greenhouse and propagation facility. Richard improved pedestrian and vehicular circulation, expanded the alpine and dry gardens and collaborated with the Northwest Horticultural Society to create and manage a fifty evening adult education programs including classes, symposia and tours.
